Translators without Borders
MediLingua is a Gold Sponsor of Translators without Borders (TWB). This nonprofit helps professional translators volunteer for humanitarian organisations.
Our managing director, Simon Andriesen, served on TWB’s first board of directors and is one of its 5 ambassadors. He also set up TWB’s translator training centre in Kenya, where over 250 medical translators have been trained.
Currently, this centre provides support and training for translation volunteers during international crises. Examples include the earthquake in Nepal, nuclear disaster in Japan, Syrian refugee crisis, and Rohingya crisis in Myanmar and Bangladesh. During the Ebola pandemic in West Africa, Simon trained dozens of translators to help educate the population about Ebola in their language. During a debate about the handling of the Ebola pandemic in the British House of Lords, TWB’s work was singled out for praise.
