Meet the team

Simon has been involved in translation and localisation since 1980, when he co-founded INK International, the first software localisation company in Europe. After the acquisition of INK by a US company in 1993, he moved to California for a few years to facilitate the handover. Simon then returned to the Netherlands in 1996. There, he set up MediLingua, a translation company specifically geared to the medical sector.

As the founder of the company, Simon is still involved in MediLingua in an advisory and supervisory role, serving as a sounding board for the management team and as an ambassador for the company.

Previously, he served on the advisory board for the life sciences pre-conference events of Localization World, the leading international translation conference. In that capacity, he gave many talks on medical translation and regulatory affairs. He served a 4-year term on the board of directors of Translators without Borders (TWB), an organisation facilitating the work of professional translators who volunteer for humanitarian organisations. In 2012, he set up the TWB Health Translators’ Training Centre in Kenya and presented his healthcare translation course to over 250 linguists in Kenya and other countries in Africa.

Esther joined the MediLingua team in 2021. She principally deals with multilingual projects in dentistry and spinal surgery, and has extensive experience in working with multimedia projects involving subtitling and voice-over.

Esther holds a degree in translation studies from the University of Groningen. Her languages were Spanish, Italian and English. After her studies, she lived and worked in Spain for 2 years. On returning to the Netherlands, she worked as a case manager for IBM for a few years before returning to her passion: translation.

Before joining MediLingua, she was a project manager for a general translation agency. During her time there, she dealt with large projects in a broad spectrum of fields, including technical, legal and marketing.

Esther is a native speaker of Dutch, speaks fluent English, Spanish and Italian, and has B2-level German and French.

Since April 2000, Simone has been responsible for financial and personnel administration at MediLingua. Prior to this, she worked for a major international bank.

As a quality assurance editor, Jowen performs language and quality checks on an array of translated texts, including website content, marketing materials, IFUs for medical devices, and clinical trial documents. Additionally, they check whether SPCs and PILs conform to the EMA QRD templates.

Jowen studied biology (BSc) and translation (MA) and has worked in translation since July 2021, where they started out as a translator. They acquired extensive knowledge of biology and completed a specialisation in medical translation during their studies. This has made them fully able to comprehend complex biomedical texts. Jowen started working at MediLingua in June 2022.

Jowen is fluent in both Dutch and English and is most interested in Scandinavian languages.

Annemarie has worked as a project manager for MediLingua since 1998, principally dealing with texts for clinical trials and medical devices.

She’s a sworn translator for Dutch and English and successfully completed a course in medical and pharmaceutical translation in 2011, as well as a university course in scientific editing.

Prior to this, Annemarie graduated in translation studies at the University of Amsterdam. She went on to work as a translator, editor and account manager in an international translation company, where she also completed a management course.

Annemarie is bilingual in Dutch and English. She also speaks Spanish, French and German, and is currently learning Portuguese.

Justin has worked at MediLingua since 2000. His tasks include technical support, project management and in-house desktop publishing (DTP).

He was born in the UK and has also lived in France and Belgium. He graduated in European studies and politics from the University of Kent. He has worked as a technical editor, technical writer and project manager at various international translation companies.

Justin speaks English, Dutch and French.

Mischa has been active in the translation sector since 2000, mainly as a translator/reviewer. He handles a variety of text types, including ICFs, product information and package leaflets, as well as marketing texts and websites. His duties also include QA checks and checking product information texts for compliance with the applicable EMA QRD templates. Mischa is fluent in Dutch and English.

Michał has worked as a project manager at MediLingua since 2019. He primarily manages medical brochures and other projects related to dentistry.

Thanks to his extensive experience as a project manager at various translation agencies, he is familiar with all aspects of translation and editing projects in multiple languages for multiple clients. He also enjoys working with different file formats at MediLingua.

Michał holds a university degree in German language and literature. He speaks German, Dutch, Polish and English.

Laureen has worked as a project manager at MediLingua since 2022. She manages projects related to dentistry.

She holds a degree in Japanese studies, a master’s in Asian studies, and a master’s in translation studies. She speaks Dutch and English, and has N2-level Japanese.

Hester joined MediLingua in 2024. She manages projects related to dentistry.

She holds a degree in English studies and a master’s in translation studies. She speaks Dutch and English, has a working knowledge of French, and is learning Spanish.

After completing an internship, Miranda started working as an editor for MediLingua in 2021. She edits texts for clinical trials, websites, marketing material, IFUs and PILs.

Miranda has a bachelor’s degree in Dutch law and a master’s degree in translation from Leiden University, where she specialised in legal translation. She also completed an elective course in French language acquisition during her studies.

Miranda is a native speaker of English and Dutch.

As a quality assurance editor, Francesca revises and performs quality checks on a large variety of texts for clinical trials, websites, marketing materials, IFUs, SPCs and PILs.

She has worked in localisation since 2010 as a transcreator, content writer and project manager, specialising in the marketing, audiovisual and publishing industries.

Francesca is a native Italian speaker. She holds a master’s degree in literary translation from Milan’s Civica Scuola Interpreti e Traduttori (a partner of Strasbourg University), where she studied English, Dutch and French. She also has N4-level Japanese and has been enrolled in a small Japanese class since late 2019.

Esther predominantly works on plain language projects. She develops patient-friendly texts that explain medical terminology to patients. She also has extensive experience in editing and rewriting patient information leaflets. Other areas of her work include regulatory texts, clinical trials and readability testing.

She has worked in translation since 2011, primarily as a translator and reviser. Before that she studied at University College London and obtained a master’s degree in translation theory and practice. She has successfully completed several French courses, a beginner’s Italian course, a literary translation course, as well as various audiovisual translation and post-editing courses.

Esther is a native Dutch speaker, fluent in English, and has B2-level French.

Jelle has worked with MediLingua since 2022, and manages projects related to dentistry.

He holds a degree in biotechnology, majoring in forensic sciences. He also holds a degree in Scandinavian languages and cultures, with Swedish as his main language, as well as a master’s in translation studies. He speaks Dutch, English and Swedish, can read and understand Frisian, Danish, Norwegian and German, and is learning the basics of Japanese. With his combination of science, language and translation studies, Jelle feels completely at home at MediLingua.

Wytze has worked at MediLingua as a quality assurance editor since January 2022. He works on a variety of medical texts in a multitude of languages.

Wytze studied comparative Indo-European linguistics at Leiden University. He has since developed a broad interest in the world’s languages, and in those belonging to the Indo-European family in particular. He completed an Italian language course in Rome and is always improving his skills in some language or other.

Wytze is fluent in Frisian, Dutch and English.

As a project manager, Agnita mainly works on texts relating to clinical trials of medicinal products. Her other main focus is regulatory documents for medicines and radiopharmaceuticals.

She joined MediLingua in September 2001 after a career as the head of the editorial department of a large medical publisher. She studied English, French and Spanish at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and is a sworn translator for Dutch and English. Agnita worked in London for 3 years as a technical writer/translator at an advertising technology company.

She successfully completed a course in medical and pharmaceutical translation in 2011, a university course in scientific editing in 2013, as well as another university course in transcreation in 2016.

Agnita speaks Dutch, English, French, Spanish and German.

Olga joined MediLingua in 2024. She manages projects for our clients in clinical trials and medicinal products.

Olga holds a degree in English and linguistics. She enjoyed a successful career as a technical translator and worked for several leading oil and gas companies. A keen interest in human health and nutrition prompted her to pursue a degree in nutritional science. Following this career change, she worked as a nutritionist and clinical research scientist for a CRO specialising in medical monitoring.

Olga speaks Russian, English and Dutch. She is working on her Spanish.

Cécile has been a project manager at MediLingua since 2024. She manages projects for our clinical trials and medicines clients.

She holds a master’s degree in bio-pharmaceutical sciences. She gained extensive experience in clinical trial research as a clinical study manager. Cécile speaks Dutch and
English and is interested in learning the basics of Gaelic.

Sanne has been at MediLingua since 2024. She manages multilingual projects involving all aspects of clinical trials and medicinal products.

She holds a master’s degree in translation studies from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and is fluent in Dutch and English.
